The After School program served 11 girls over a 10-week period. The course covered an introduction to hand / power tools, workshop safety, 2D design using Inkscape and VCarve, circuits and soldering, use of the laser cutter, CNC Router, bowl turning on a wood lathe, and an introduction to welding. Instructor to student ratio was kept low for safety and to encourage mentoring and networking. All instructors received prior training in all the projects and processes. Curriculum expert Ginger Huebner provided an in-depth academic curriculum that reflected the NC Standards educational outcomes of each of the projects and offered information on art education and design thinking.
